Duty-Free Spending Limit to Be Raised by Chuseok













The duty-free spending limit will be raised from US$600 to $800 before Chuseok in September, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said last Friday.

The limit on liquor purchases will be raised from one liter to two, but they must cost less than $400, and the quota on cigarettes will stay the same at one carton and for perfume at 60 ml.

By making it effective in time for Korea’s biggest holiday, which starts on Sept. 10, the ministry hopes to provide a fillip to the tourism industry which has suffered in the coronavirus pandemic.
